Filtration Glassware

Filtration glassware included the items needed to filter solids from liquids.

Porcelain buchner funnels are used with filter paper and are best suited for filtering out the solids which are or contain your target compound. Removal of  the paper is fast and easy, but some of the solids usually get around the paper. The paper can also be problematic for strong acids and bases which can dissolve the paper.

Glass fritted funnels don't use filter paper and are best suited for filtering out solid waste when your liquid contains your target compounds. Cleaning the solids from the fritted disc is slower and less convenient than paper but nothing gets through so leads to a better filtration. Fritted discs also withstand acids and bases.
